taking from the tip jar

Artist Jordan Seiler made the following works by appropriating 21 NYC phonebooth advertising frames into mixed-media illustrations. Of these fashion photography and illustration-inspired pieces, Seiler says: “Each piece is created using a single used book repurposed as a single page and then marked with pencil, pastel and spraypaint. While the work remains inside the gallery, the result is 21 less advertising structures on the streets of New York” (from Vincent Michael Gallery). The book pages gathered together make for an intriguing canvas, while the function of the frames themselves offers another dimension to the meaning of this piece.
