idleness, patterns

16Jul11

Ella Amitay Sadovsky incorporates acrylic, oil, and upholstery fabric in these paintings, providing much to take in at once without confusing the viewer. The overlay of busy patterns on interior scenes, not to mention the inclusion of figurative action are focal points on their own that also work extremely well cohesively. Value shifts in the patterns create framing within the picture plane, which seem to contribute to the clarity. Something is also to be said about the realistic depiction of people. There is a vaguely familiar feel to them, probably due to drawing the figures at a distance form the foreground..inviting nostalgia all the same. Via.
