silk stripes

01Aug11

Jacob Dahlgren is a Swedish designer. Stripes show up consistently throughout his work; people in his performances have sported striped attire on several occasions, for example. I liked this project’s overlapping straight lines as an inviting sculpture, from 2006 at Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Titled The Wonderful World of Abstraction, this piece is made with 32,000 pieces of silk thread. Sure, the image of the child running through the silk is a little much for me…but it is fitting for a work with such a title. I like how the work encases its own private space in a public gallery. And whatever, I like all the colorful stripes. via.
