photo sculpture

Maurizio Anzeri embroiders linear designs over old photographs with bright, colorful thread. He calls the finished products “photo sculptures” because the embroidery adds dimension to the flat photographs. His obvious tendency towards design in his embroidery certainly transforms the photographs into something different. This article seems to let on that his process is mostly intuitive: “Every time I decide to do it on purpose it doesn’t work.” Seeing that successful artists can have this kind of approach to creating is refreshing. (I’m not one to over-plan.) Anzeri has worked with Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow…he has exhibited at Charles Saatchi’s gallery. via.

  1. I never know whether I should post it, but “cool” is my usual reaction to most of your posts. This is no exception.
