nightclub drawings

Artist/ illustrator Anna Higgie has many intriguing projects on her website, but I found this commissioned project for a Berlin nightclub, Crush, in 2008 to be particularly blog-worthy. This is namely because I like seeing a good site-specific installation…and I also am comforted knowing that an artist can get paid to make kick-ass drawings in a public space. The project consisted of large-scale drawings on 6  separate panels (each 10ft tall x 5 ft wide) made of wood and covered in shiny white plastic. Anna completed the project in only 4 days, with help filling in the larger black areas (as marker pens were the sole material!) This temporary installation was up for a weekend in May, and the club featured DJ PRINC THOMAS. I love that drawings existed in this nightclub – not glossy posters printed by a computer, but honest, hand-drawn and hand-filled-in drawings. You just don’t see it that often. love, love, love. via.
