drawings of color

Mia Christopher made the following works on paper. As you can tell by the absence of any representational thing, Mia is further investigating the formal elements of painting in her work. There is no mixing of colors on the paper, so one can assume every color was intentionally mixed and selected. I like how the colors are placed in the center of the pages; all the negative space around them draws our focus to the forms and how they fit within the given space. For me, the resulting forms feel as though they could be instantly animated and move freely about the page. Her investigation is so eloquent that they are less like studies of color and more like drawings about color itself. via this interview.
